Narrative Creation
-
Simply Wall St users will begin to be able to create their own Narrative on the platform. For users adding a new stock to your Portfolio or Watchlist, you will be able to capture your own estimate of a company’s Fair Value after detailing the Catalysts, Assumptions and Risks that you believe justify that valuation.
How this helps?
When you have an estimate of Fair Value, this can then be used as a guide for your own buy/hold/sell investment decisions. Your Fair Value estimate of a company is based on the Catalysts you think are likely to play out, your Assumptions about the degree of the changes, and the Risks that could prevent this from happening.
Estimating a Fair Value allows you to know when a company becomes potentially overvalued or undervalued based on your expectations and helps you to make a more informed investment decision.
As you monitor the Narrative you’ve created, you can then adjust the Catalysts, Assumptions, Risks and Fair Value estimate over time as events unfold.

We have made some additions and improvements to the Company Reports, Screener and Narratives. These changes will allow you to dig deeper and easily understand how a company generates cash and profits, stay up to date on the latest and best company research and receive new investment opportunities straight to your inbox.
Company Reports
-
Introduced a new Free Cash Flow Chart that breaks down the factors that impact a company's free cash flow (funds remaining after accounting for necessary expenses and investments) over the past 12 months, offering a visual representation of key elements in play.
How this helps?
Free cash flow analysis assesses a company's financial health by gauging its ability to generate cash after covering all expenses. It provides insights into liquidity, financial flexibility, and the ability to meet obligations like debt payments or dividends, and the capacity to invest in further growth. This analysis is crucial for understanding a company's overall financial performance and business sustainability. See example: Uber (NYSE:UBER) Free Cash Flow Vs Earnings Analysis.
- Both the Free Cash Flow Chart and the Revenue & Expenses Breakdown Chart are available in a tabular format, enabling smoother data interpretation and comparison.
How this helps?
The tabular format allows for a more granular analysis of the financial statements, aiding more efficient data comparison, trend identification, and in-depth scrutiny of a company’s financial nuances. See example: Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) Revenue & Expenses Breakdown Table
Screener
-
Introduced new screener alerts so that you receive timely notifications whenever there are fresh additions to your saved stock screeners so you can jump on any new investment opportunity.
How this helps?
The screener alerts provide you with timely notifications whenever new stocks meet the criteria set by your saved screeners, ensuring you are consistently updated on potential investment opportunities.
Narratives
-
You now have the ability to upvote or downvote each narrative to provide some feedback on the quality of a narrative’s analysis and its writing.
How this helps?
At the click of a button, you can provide the author and the community with some quick feedback on a stock narrative. Do you see a well-written narrative that you find thought-provoking? Give it an upvote to let the community know it's a high-quality narrative!
See example: Alphabet (NasdaqGS:GOOGL) - Trends In Cloud And Advertising Will Deliver Steady Revenue Growth
-
We have added follow functionality to narratives so you can be updated on any future announcements or changes to the narrative. Following a narrative adds the company to your watchlist, so that you’ll be informed of any changes in opinion or see if the author’s predictions have come to fruition.
How this helps?
If you’ve found a narrative that you love, or even one that you want to keep a close eye on to see if it changes over time, then following it will be a great way to keep up to date.
Following a narrative adds the company to your watchlist (or creates a watchlist for you if you don’t have one) and ensures you don’t miss a single update to the narratives you’re interested in!
