What to Know Before You Start Linking Your Portfolio to Simply Wall St

Linking your portfolio connects your brokerage account to Simply Wall St, so your portfolio updates automatically. This section covers what you get, whether it's safe, whether your broker is supported, and what to expect once you're linked, so you can decide if it's right for you before you start.

Ready to link right away? Skip to How to Link Your Brokerage Account.

Benefits of Linking Your Portfolio

Linking is the easiest, most automated way to keep a portfolio on Simply Wall St. Once connected:

  • Your current holdings are imported automatically. No manual entry.
  • Your portfolio syncs on its own, so performance tracking stays current without upkeep.
  • You can link multiple brokers to get one consolidated view of your investments across accounts (one login per broker can be linked at a time).
Note: Broker linking is available only on the Premium and Unlimited plans.

Is It Safe to Link My Broker to Simply Wall St?

Simply Wall St can't access your money or place trades on your behalf. Linking only gives Simply Wall St a read-only view of your holdings, nothing more.

Here's how that works:

  • What we can see: A synced, read-only view of your holdings and balances.
  • What we can't do: Execute buy, sell, or withdrawal transactions, or move your money in any way.
  • Your login credentials: Simply Wall St does not store your broker login information.
  • How the connection works: Rather than connecting to your broker directly, Simply Wall St uses trusted third-party connectivity providers that link through your broker's official APIs.

We work with Plaid and SnapTrade to facilitate portfolio linking. With SnapTrade, we’re able to provide you with connectivity using the official APIs of major brokerages. Follow this link for more information on connectivity via the APIs of those brokers

  • Authorization: The connection uses anonymous authorization tokens rather than your actual login credentials.

Supported Brokers and Country Availability

Simply Wall St supports linking for a wide range of brokers. You can check and search whether your broker is available for linking directly from the portfolio page.

Broker not listed? You can still track your investments with a manual portfolio. Please refer to: How to Create a Manual Portfolio.

Things to Know About a Linked Portfolio

  • Linking currently imports your current holdings as a snapshot; it doesn't yet support full transaction history. If you want transaction-level detail (cost basis per trade, realized gains over time, etc.), a manually created Transactions Portfolio may suit you better for now.
  • Your portfolio updates at least once daily. Please wait a few hours for the changes to appear.

IBKR Sync & Data Availability

When you connect your Interactive Brokers (IBKR) account, your portfolio data may not appear immediately. This is expected due to how IBKR makes data available to third-party services.

What to Expect:

  • IBKR data is delayed by up to one business day.
  • Even after successfully connecting your account through SnapTrade, your holdings may take 24-48 hours to appear.
  • If you're connecting your IBKR account for the first time, this initial sync may take 24-48 hours due to a known limitation with IBKR's Third-Party Services.
Note: IBKR updates data once per business day, typically around 2:00 AM EDT (Monday - Friday, excluding holidays).

Estimated Data Availability:

The table below provides typical timelines for when your portfolio data may become available after connecting your account.

Note: Your API Secret Key is shown only once. Copy and save both the API Key and API Secret Key immediately; you'll need both in the next step.
Return to Simply Wall St and enter both your API Key and API Secret Key in the connection screen.
