What Happens After You Create a Portfolio?

Once your portfolio is set up, the platform keeps it up to date, analyses it, and uses it to personalise what you receive. This article explains what to expect and where to go for details.

On your Simply Wall St portfolio, you can:

a. Track your investments

Your portfolio shows what you hold and what it is worth. Linked portfolios sync from your broker, and manual portfolios change when you add transactions.

b. Analyse your portfolio

The analysis goes beyond what you own. You can review your portfolio's analysis, valuation, dividends, diversification, and see detailed returns.

The Returns Report of a Linked Portfolio is limited. If you want to have a Detailed Returns Analysis, Annualized Returns, and Easier Tax & Reporting, you may create a Manual Portfolio.

c. Weekly Portfolio Report

You will receive a weekly email covering all of your portfolios. The portfolio weekly report shows the total value and returns for the holdings depending on your subscription limit:

  • Free Plan: Access to 1 portfolio with a maximum of 10 holdings.
  • Premium Plan: Access to 3 portfolios, with a limit of 30 holdings per portfolio.
  • Unlimited Plan: Access to unlimited portfolios with an unlimited number of holdings.

At the top of the email, it shows a market and an industry from your portfolios:

  • Market: the market with the most holdings across your portfolios.
  • Industry: the industry that makes up the largest share of your invested value.

d. Smart Updates

Smart Updates are personalised alerts about companies in your portfolios and Watchlists. The companies you follow determine which events may be sent to you.

Smart Updates are not limited to portfolio holdings. A company in a Watchlist can trigger them too.

To receive them, subscribe to Important Updates in your notification settings.

  • Daily Batch: groups your smart updates into fewer emails, so you receive fewer emails throughout the day.
  • Individual emails: receive separate emails for each smart update about your portfolio holdings.
  • Push notifications: receive mobile push notifications about updates to your portfolio holdings.
Note: The same update can potentially appear through more than one notification type if multiple settings are enabled. If you want to keep updates consolidated and reduce duplicate notifications, we recommend using Daily Batch.

You may receive updates about events such as the following information:

To receive them, subscribe to Trending Activity on Your Stocks in your notification settings.

f.  Portfolio Hub

The Portfolio Hub is a convenient feature that displays a list of all your portfolios in one place. It provides you with a comprehensive overview of the value, returns, and analysis of all your portfolios. This feature is an extension of the Dashboard widget and allows you to have a closer look at all your portfolios as an aggregate.

You can easily access all the portfolios that you own by navigating through the drop-down menu. This way, you can also view each portfolio in detail.

The portfolio hub consists of:
