What happens if a stock in your portfolio is delisted or changes its ticker?

Corporate events can change how a stock appears in Simply Wall St. Your portfolio doesn't adjust automatically for mergers, acquisitions, or ticker changes, so you need to update a holding yourself.

Stock splits are the exception: they are recognised automatically in a portfolio, and you should enter pre-split transactions.

Can I add a delisted or inactive stock?

No. Simply Wall St has kept company reports for delisted and inactive stocks since 2023, but at the moment you can’t add these stocks to a portfolio. We plan to let you add them in the future.

What if a company in my portfolio changed its ticker, is acquired, or merged?

The portfolio tool doesn't automatically recognise ticker changes, mergers, or acquisitions. You need to replace the old ticker with the new one for transactions made before the change.

For example, if you bought shares when the company was listed as Facebook (FB), replace them with Meta (META).

Here's how to do this:

  1. Go to your portfolio and find the holding.
  2. Select the three dots (⋯) on the right side of the holding, then select Edit Transactions.
  3. Replace each transaction again under the new ticker, using the original dates, shares, and prices.
  4. Select Save.

Linked portfolio: Any changes from your broker will automatically reflect on your linked portfolio

What happens to a delisted holding that's already in my portfolio?

A stock that is already in your portfolio stays there after it is delisted or becomes inactive, as we keep its company report.

You can leave it in your portfolio. It keeps its history and is valued at its last closing price.

If you’ve sold it, record the sale so the portfolio stops carrying a value you no longer have. To add a Sell transaction at the actual sale price on the sale date.

Here's how to do this:

  1. Go to your portfolio and find the holding.
  2. Select the three dots (⋯) on the right side of the holding, then select Edit Transactions.
  3. Add the transaction details
  4. Select Save.
Note: Delisted stocks can’t be added, so a removed inactive holding from your portfolio can’t be added back.

How are inactive stocks valued in my portfolio?

When a company becomes inactive, whether because of a delisting, an acquisition, or another event, Simply Wall St values the holding at the last closing price before that event. Your returns are calculated using that price.
